A blow for web reuse of spatial data?

It appears that Google, in licensing DigitalGlobe’s imagery for display on the web using Google Maps and Google Earth has meant that only a limited number vendors can now have access to the imagery. Apparently media and state governments in the US can still obtain access, but a lot of others are now cut off from using the imagery due to Google’s exclusivity.
